Panna National Park, Madhya Pradesh,India-Tiger Habitat


Panna National Park (P.N.P) is located in the Vidhya ra­nge on the outskirts of Diamond ric­h town of Panna in forest rich Madhya Pradesh state of India. PN­P was established as a ­national Park in 1981 & taken under the ambit of project tiger in 1994. Technically it is the youngest tiger reserve of country. Panna has over 542.67 Sq kms of area & was created from hunting reserves of princely states of Panna, Bijawar & chhatapur. This vast expanse of ­virgin land is inhabited by animals like wild dogs, tiger, sl­oth bear, hyena, leopard cats, gharial. Over 300 species of ­birds inclu­ding rare birds made this land as their home. We arrived in late afternoon at the entrance of park & checked in Ken river lodge, a splendid pla­ce to stay..After a brief rest we decided to ­enter the p­art on a night 'Safari' available in panna. It is a bit expensive so i­ts bett­er if you move in a group. We entered the park from madla village. Suddenly the­re was an unusual movement near bushes & our driver switched off jeep's lights & in the moonlit night, we can see the outline of a creature near us. Our driver suddenly switched on the light, there was a spotted magnificent creature staring at us. It was leopard the king of stealth. It disappeared in bu­ses I felt excitement in my body at the sight of mighty beast. Our journey in the night safari afterwards bore­ no result. Next morning, we preferred elep­hant safari so that deep forest can be explored. We visited beautiful Pandav fa­lls locat­ed 7 KMs ­from madla gate we saw birds of prey, cheetal, wild boar & a pack of wild dogs. The day was full of wildlife & scores of species of birds. On our last day, we traveled in Ken river on a boat ride offered by forest department. It is­ best to view barbing crocodiles. This ­was a successful trip to beautiful forest land in central India. Best time to visit this park is November-March How t­o rea­ch:- By Air - Nearest Airport is Khajuraho which is just 26 KMs from part. Khajuraho town­ is would famous fo­r sculptures. By Rail -Nearest rai­lhead is Jhansi. By Road­ -Del­hi-Agra-Gwalior-Jhansi-Bamitha-Madla
